Pit bulls have become a rather controversial dog breed for a few reasons. On one side, you have those who believe these dogs are dangerous and pose a risk to people who come near them. On the other side, you have those who love pit bulls and claim that the problem is that people do not raise them well enough. These individuals believe that pit bulls can be just as safe and friendly as any other breed.

Well, regardless of the reasons for the attacks, the truth is that pit bulls do bite the most. A study that came out just last year, in 2019, indicated that they made up 22.5% of all of the bites that got reported. No other breed had a higher percentage. You cannot argue with these statistics, which show that these dogs are often dangerous, whether it is their own fault or the fault of their owners. After pit bulls came dogs who were of a mixed breed, with 21.2%, and then German Shepards, with 17.8%.

It is worth noting that the danger with pit bulls is their power and strength. They can do serious harm when they attack. The same is true for other large breeds. For instance, Akitas and Great Danes do not bite often, but they cause massive injuries when they do. Some smaller breeds may be aggressive and attempt to bite but, due to their small size, not actually do any harm. Does that skew the statistics when these types of dog attacks do not get reported? Possibly, but that doesn’t much matter if you get bitten.
