These days, everyone seems to be in a hurry. Nowhere is that more apparent than on the roadways. Aggressive drivers are everywhere, and road rage incidents continue to be a dangerous problem.
Alabama legislators passed the Anti-Road Rage Act in 2019. This bill states that drivers may only use the far left lane for passing. Once you enter the lane, you may only remain there for one and a half miles unless there is an emergency or extenuating circumstances. The idea is to reduce drivers getting angry when someone blocks the left lane. Yet that alone will not solve the problem of angry drivers.
Staying alert behind the wheel and recognizing the signs of an aggressive driver can help you stay safer. Aggressive driving includes:
When an aggressive driver is targeting you, try to get out of harm’s way as quickly and safely as possible by moving to the right and letting them pass.
If you are in an accident due to another driver’s aggression, move your car to the far right shoulder if driveable, then call 911 and report the accident. If the angry driver approaches you, do not engage with them. Stay in your car, and wait for the police to arrive.
If you have been injured in a car accident caused by road rage, seek experienced legal guidance as soon as possible.
